Baer Field Motorsports Park Already Looking Towards 2018
Off-Season News Plentiful with New Competitor Incentives for Weekly Competition
As the winter months have begun to set in on the Midwest, the 2018 preparations have already begun for Baer Field Motorsports Park and what will be the track’s 55th season of competition. As of Thursday, November 16th, 2017 Driver and Pit Pad Registration will officially begin for the Pavement Stock Car teams to reserve their desired pitting locations for the 2018 season.
A new “Two-Tire” per race night procedure is being introduced in 2018 in the BFMP Late Models, Open Wheel Modifieds, and Street Stocks classes where teams will only be permitted to purchase two new race tires per event night, and must utilize two “old” or “used” tires in competition. This rule change comes as a way for track officials to try and address the rising cost of competition and combat to what many racers have voiced being the most financially draining aspect of the sport of short track racing.
The season will begin on Saturday, April 7th, 2018 and as an incentive for competitors to turn in their registration information, a new “Tire Rebate” program. The pilot program will be introduced for all teams that have their registration turned in by April 1st, and will offer each qualifying team a special $5 per tire purchased rebate to be paid back out at season’s end in November of 2018.
The 2018 schedule is still being finalized with various sanctioning bodies and promoting operations, in what is sure to be one of the busiest seasons in track history. A new “semi-weekly” class will be introduced in the likes of the “Outlaw Compacts” which will utilize the rules governed by the Vore’s Compact Touring Series which will return to Baer Field as well in 2018. Minor alterations to the rules will be used in the BFMP Outlaw Compacts, particularly in the likes of the “Restrictor Plate” will not be mandatory in BFMP competition, and a racing fuel cell will also not be required. Full details on the rules will be released in the coming weeks.
The full schedule is set to be released during the week of December 4th, 2017 to coincide with the annual PRI Trade Show held in Indianapolis, Indiana at the Indiana Convention Center.
